UC Davis Graduate School of Management is committed to protecting personal privacy and the personal information collected via webpages. This statement provides general information about how the personal information provided to us may be processed and describes users with privacy rights.
Data we collect
Information you give us directly
We may obtain information about you when you take part in one of our events, make a donation, submit an application, purchase services or when you register to receive one of our newsletters.
To help confirm your identity, our sites may require you to provide authentication (such as your full name, address, email, password, a university-provided ID or number or your date of birth).
We also obtain information about you from other sources and combine that information with information we collect from you directly. For example, our recruiting partners collect information that you give them directly and they provide it to us so we can send you information and assist with your enrollment. The information we obtain from these sources could include your name, email address, phone number and address, program of interest, gender, date of birth, emergency contact, English level, TOEFL score, preferred housing situation, plans after your program ends, and dependent information, as well as any information about you that is associated with or linked to, or could be linked to, any of the foregoing data.
Information you give us indirectly
Your information may be shared with us by third parties, which includes subcontractors acting on our behalf who provide us with technical, payment or delivery services, our business partners, advertising networks analytics providers, social media sites (such as Meta, LinkedIn, and X) and search information providers.
When you visit a UC Davis Graduate School of Management website
We, like many companies, automatically collect the following information:
- Technical information, including the type of device you’re using, the IP address, browser and operating system being used to connect your computer to the internet. This information may be used to improve the services we offer.
- Information about your visit to this website, for example we collect information about pages you visit and how you navigate the website, i.e. length of visits to certain pages, services you viewed and searched for, referral sources (e.g. how you arrived at our website).
We collect and use your personal data by using cookies on our website – more information on cookies can be found under the Cookies and Web Storage section below.
Types of information we may collect
The personal data we collect, store and use might include:
- your name and contact details (including postal address, email address and telephone number);
- your date of birth;
- your social security numbers in accordance with UC Davis Policy and Procedure Manual Section 320-22;
- information about your activities on our websites and about the device used to access it, for instance your IP address and geographical location;
- your bank or credit card details. If you make a donation online or make a purchase, your card information is not held by us, it is collected by our third-party payment processors, who specialize in the secure online capture and processing of credit/debit card transactions;
- education information;
- publicly available information from third parties such address, phone, email, employment and the like;
- and any other personal data shared with us either directly or indirectly.
How we use your data
Graduate School of Management processes your Personal Data for the following purposes and bases:
- Providing you with information regarding GSM programs, events and initiatives. We will generally only do this where it is in our legitimate interest and where you have not objected or withdrawn any prior consent given,
- Evaluating your eligibility for admission into GSM programs. This is generally required for programs that have prerequisites or applications,
- Evaluating your eligibility and qualifications for scholarship applications. This is generally required as part of our decision-making process to ensure we select appropriate candidates,
- UC may also be required to disclose your Personal Data to authorities who can request this information by law that is binding on UC,
- Utilizing sensitive personal data in connection with GSM PE Services, with your consent,
- Making automated decisions in order to provide tailored products and services. Examples of this include emailing you content based upon a program you’ve expressed interest in or the timeframe within which you’ve indicated you’d like to enroll, informing you of future classes that are related to classes you’ve taken, serving you advertising on third-party sites based on pages you’ve visited on GSM’s site or links you’ve clicked on in a GSM email, etc. For more information on automated decisions, including instructions on how to opt-out of such activities, please see below.
Access to electronically collected personal information and IP addresses will be in accordance with existing University policy governing disclosure of personal information including UC Davis Policy and Procedure Manual Sections 320-20, 320-21, and 320-35.
If your Personal Data is shared with a third party, UC will require that the third party use appropriate measures to protect the confidentiality and security of your Personal Data.
We may also need to share your Personal Data as required to respond to lawful requests and legal process; to protect our rights and property and those of our agents, customers and others, including to enforce our agreements and policies; and in an emergency, to protect UC and the safety of our students, faculty and staff or any third party.
Cookies and web storage
This website uses cookies – small text files that are placed on your computer by websites that you visit. These are widely used in order to make websites work, or work more efficiently, as well as to provide information to the owners of the site. Cookies also allow websites to respond to you as an individual. The cookies on this site are encrypted and do not save any of your personally identifiable information. Cookies allow UC Davis Graduate School of Management to tailor our website to better match your interest and preferences.

Web Storage
Alongside cookies, the UC Davis GSM websites and services may utilize ‘web storage’. Web storage is more secure and performs more effectively than using cookies to store pieces of information.
Google Analytics
UC Davis GSM websites run Google Analytics, which uses four cookies for tracking visitors to the site.
These cookies store information about what time the current visit occurred, whether the visitor has been to the site before and what site referred the visitor to the web page.
No data specific to any identifiable user is retained and we do not share our data with any other Google services.
- With the values gained from these cookies Google Analytics can interpret journeys through our website content, give us information about how people use our site and so allow us to improve it.

- As a user you may opt out of the process Google Analytics uses to collect traffic log data (should your web browser be compatible). Google provides a browser add-on that enables a user to opt out of receiving Google Analytics cookies.
Third-party Ads
This website currently utilizes third parties, including Meta and Google Ads, that use cookies, web beacons, and other storage technologies to collect or receive information from this website and elsewhere on the internet and use that information to provide measurement services and target ads. You can use Ads Settings to manage the Google ads you see and opt out of Ads Personalization. Even if you opt out of Ads Personalization, you may still see ads based on factors such as your general location derived from your IP address, your browser type, and your search terms. How we protect your data
Retention and Deletion of Personal Information
UC will only retain your Personal Data for the duration necessary for the data collection purposes identified above, unless there is a legal requirement to maintain it for a longer period.
UC may be obligated to retain your Personal Data as required by U.S. federal or state law. If you wish to exercise your rights, you can contact the UC Privacy Official identified below.
Security
Operators of Web servers and Web server software must comply with the UC BFB-IS-3: Electronic Information Security Policy and Sections 310-21 and 310-22, as well as other associated polices, and take reasonable steps to protect the security, integrity and privacy of information submitted via UC Davis Web pages.
UC takes appropriate physical, administrative and technical measures to protect Personal Data that are consistent with applicable privacy and data security laws and regulations. We maintain safeguards to protect the security, integrity, and privacy of your Personal Data, including the following practices: (a) storing information we collect on computer systems located in controlled facilities with limited access; (b) protecting the transmission of your information over the Internet, through the use of encryption, such as the Secure Socket Layer (SSL) protocol; (c) using a variety of security technologies and procedures to help protect your Personal Data from unauthorized access, use, or disclosures; and (d) limiting access to data to only authorized personnel. We endeavor to protect the privacy of the Personal Data we hold in our records, but we cannot guarantee complete security. Unauthorized entry or use, hardware or software failure, and other factors, may compromise the security of your Personal Data. While using a UC Davis Web page, you may encounter hypertext links to the Web pages of organizations not directly affiliated with UC Davis. UC Davis does not control the content or information practices of external organizations. We recommend you review the privacy statements of these organizations.
International Transfer of Data
In order to fulfill the intended processing purposes described above, your Personal Data will be transferred outside of the European Economic Area (EEA), specifically to the United States, which does not protect Personal Data in the same way that it is protected in the EEA. UC will undertake appropriate measures to ensure adequate protection of Personal Data, including utilizing appropriate physical, administrative, and technical safeguards to protect Personal Data, as well as executing standard contractual clauses approved by the European Commission or a supervisory authority under GDPR, or obtaining your consent, where appropriate.
Your rights
As required by the General Data Protection Regulation and applicable EU Member State and EEA state law, if you are located in the European Economic Area, you have a right to:
- Access your Personal Data, as well as information relating to the recipients of your Personal Data, the purposes of processing your Personal Data, the duration for which the Personal Data will be stored, and the source of Personal Data that has not been provided by you;
- Rectify or correct inaccurate or incomplete Personal Data concerning you, taking into account the purposes of the processing, and the right to have incomplete Personal Data completed;
- Move your Personal Data to another controller or processor. UC will facilitate the lawful transfer of your data to the extent possible;
- Have your Personal Data erased in certain circumstances;
- Restrict the processing of your Personal Data in certain circumstances;
- Object to the processing of Personal Data in certain circumstances;
- Withdraw your consent to the processing of your Personal Data, should UC ask for your consent for the processing of your Personal Data. The withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing based on your consent before its withdrawal.
- Know whether your Personal Data is being used for automated decision-making, including profiling. In those cases, UC will give you meaningful information about the logic involved, the significance and the envisaged consequences of such processing for your data, and the right to request human intervention; and lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.
Individual Choice
Individuals have the option to decline any online enrollment and may submit requests to use other enrollment methods by e-mail or U.S. mail addressed to the UC Davis organization seeking the personal information.
Users may review, modify, or delete their previously provided personal information by contacting the campus organization to which they provided the personal information. If you choose not to participate in these activities, your choice will in no way affect your ability to access the general information on this Website.
You may choose not to visit or use UC Sites or participate in GSM’s Services. If you choose not to share your Personal Data with UC or UC-approved third parties for GSM Services you will not receive program information or updates, you won’t be able to create an account in our system, and you won’t be able to apply for or enroll in specific classes, programs or informational sessions, etc. You may choose to set your web browser to refuse cookies, or to alert you when cookies are being sent. If you choose to reject cookies, some parts of the Sites may not function properly. The parts of the Sites that will not function properly are form submission, the shopping cart and logging into your account.
