Dedan Mateo Sims is a seasoned professional with more than two decades of expertise in project implementation, research, and analysis within the fields of instructional operations, logistics and supply chain management. Currently serving as the assistant director of instructional operations at the UC Davis Graduate School of Management (GSM), Sims plays a pivotal role in coordinating the management of instructional resources and operations to ensure alignment with university policies and sound business practices.
In his role, Sims oversees processes that span multiple units, ensuring collaboration, adherence to deadlines, and the development of quality control procedures. He works closely with senior leadership in long-range planning, process improvement, and the implementation of innovative instructional resources, including cutting-edge technologies. His responsibilities extend to strategic and tactical planning for the operations and facilities of GSM campus locations in Davis, Sacramento and San Ramon, where he serves as a liaison between students, faculty and visiting professors.
Sims’s career spans 23 years in the United States Army, where he held significant roles in logistics, including managing a $20 million equipment portfolio. His military service honed his skills in logistics, project management, and team leadership, which he now leverages in his current role.
He holds an MBA in logistics and supply chain management (magna cum laude) and a Master of Science in healthcare administration (summa cum laude) from Trident University International. Sims is also a certified Six Sigma Black Belt, demonstrating his expertise in process improvement and operational efficiency.
As a backup safety coordinator at GSM, Sims manages ergonomic processes, safety compliance and emergency planning across multiple campus locations. His commitment to fostering a safe, efficient and supportive learning environment reflects his dedication to the university’s mission and goals.
